As part of the RIB4 resurfacing programme, we delivered the detailed design for pavement reconstruction and surface water management. The works involved full reconstruction of the binder and surface course layers, maintaining the existing road alignment and vertical profile to ensure seamless tie-ins at access lane junctions.
A key feature of the design was the introduction of an open channel drainage system, specifically engineered to convey surface runoff during intense storm events. The channel design was based on Manning’s equation for open channel flow, with careful consideration of the wetted perimeter and hydraulic efficiency to ensure optimal performance under varying flow conditions.
